District Governor
Message from DG Yaron Goldman on entering office for the year 2011-2012
I would like to thank you, Lions members from across the country, for your great confidence and readiness to be true partners in what we do. I believe that together we will strengthen friendships, neutralize obstacles and produce an interesting year of Lionist volunteering and social activities. The task I have taken upon myself is very challenging and encompassing and I know that with the help of all of you, I will be able to carry it out successfully.
I believe that the slogan I have chosen for this year "Imagine the Future" will give members faith in new challenges and provide them with motivation that will lead us to undertake:
- Expansion of Lions volunteering activities to reach new heights
- Nurturing of our future by integrating young people in everything we do
- Deepening exposure to our Clubs' volunteering activities
Further empowerment of Lionism, as part of the largest volunteer organization for the community in Israel.
We will trigger these goals through a variety of activities:
- Recruit and foster young volunteers
- Maintain Lionist identification with eyesight preservation through the support of Club activities associated with Lions International's most readily identified project
- Have as a central project – Social Sustainability and Ecology
- Track down new social community activities for Clubs to volunteer in, in cooperation with the municipal social, education and health departments of local authorities
- Joint activities for all clubs: National Tree Planting Day, Road Accidents Prevention Day, in conjunction with the Green Light association and participation in a Lions Marching Day
- Empower Clubs and members through the GLT and GMT committees, two new committees set up to serve the organization's members for the coming three years in areas that include leadership training, membership, preservation and expansion of clubs on an ongoing basis
- Intensive penetration of the local and national media, aimed at exposing and strengthening Lionist activities in the community
- Initiate meetings with heads of local authorities where clubs are active, aimed at raising awareness of volunteering activities in general and of Lions in particular
- Expansion of the scope of volunteering activities in cooperation with employees of high tech companies
- Expansion of international activities and the forging of cooperation in different areas with Lions clubs and members from all over the world
- Last, but not least, strengthening all the ongoing projects – the Children's Peace Poster, Volunteer Person of the Year Award (including for youth)' the Music Contest as part of the European International Music Contest, Golden Age Painting Contest, participation in the Lions International Youth Exchange Program, and more.
What unites all of us in our activities is the Lions International slogan "We Serve". At the core of our activities lie values of giving, helping our fellow men and women and assisting the weak, education mostly among youngsters, continuous involvement in the community, friendship and tolerance.
The idea of social service can bring us new friends, maintain old friends and strengthen our work.
What is most amazing about us in Lions is that each and everyone of each has the opportunity to lead the organization and become District Governor for a year. The organization's strength lies in its variety. Each of us has an individual personality and a circle of people who work best with us. I call upon all of you to enable us to work this year in cooperation with the members of the cabinet and the clubs that I am familiar with and appreciate personally. If any of you believe I should be doing things differently, I will always be happy to get some good advice or a new idea and try to implement it still this year, my year as District Governor.
In true friendship, with mutual respect and challenging work, we will act to make Lions Israel
even stronger.
Yaron Goldman
District Governor 2011-2012
